The chance of being taken hostage is relatively small. However, anyone can be become a ‘metaphorical hostage' in a relationship with a boss, employees, colleagues, or customers. In this program, George Kohlrieser—an international leadership professor at IMD, consultant, and veteran hostage negotiator—will illustrate that it is only by openly facing conflict that we can truly progress through the most difficult business challenges.

In this provocative program, based on his book, “Hostage at the Table: How Leaders Can Overcome Conflict, Influence Others, and Raise Performance”, Dr. Kohlrieser will explore how the proven techniques and psychological insights used in hostage negotiation can be applied successfully to any personal or business relationship, ensuring one never becomes a psychological “hostage”. Step by step, he will outline the key factors that anyone can use to remove the blocks that stand in the way of resolving tough problems. He will illustrate how business leaders and managers can develop the skills they need to engage in productive dialogue and to create trust and a positive mind-set in their companies. His research, teaching, and consulting activities, which focus on high performance leadership and teamwork, conflict and change management, dialogue and negotiation, and stress management, incorporate the lessons learned as a psychologist and hostage negotiator.
